Discover Social learning!
We live in a social world. Our ability to share space with others, follow unwritten social rules, and interact with others affects our success in life and our personal happiness. The better we understand our relationships and communication with others, the better we function in school, at home, or in the community. Sometimes the “social skills” we expect children to learn do not develop intuitively. "Social Thinking(c)" has become a term to reflect the teaching of understanding social skills, not just the how but the why. Michelle Garcia Winner explains the philosophy behind social thinking in her books: Inside Out: What Makes a Person with Social Cognitive Deficits Tick(2000) and Thinking About YOU; Thinking about ME , 2nd Ed. (2007). You can also visit her website at www.socialthinking.com and read the articles posted in the “philosophy” section of her website.
In our new special, Social Learning, we explore the social world in a fun and educational way. Using cognitive behavioral approaches to introduce social skills through games, role plays, and activities, we provide the opportunity to learn about what we do, why and how to improve the way we interact with others. We use curriculum including Superflex, A Superhero Social Thinking Curriculum (2008) and Think Social! A Social Thinking Curriculum for School-Age Students (2008).
